IF I JUST LAY HERE :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I rarely comment on my work or post anything personal on the blog, and usually just post a link to the designs, but my new designs are heading in a completely different direction to anything I’ve ever done before, very like my life at the moment really. There are lots of sketches, drawings, paintings & other artworks in the collection that’ll eventually be posted here.

I ‘d be lost without music as a ’soundtrack to life’ and as inspiration for designing. It’s been a very long time since I listened to Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ & this desktop & new front page are the result. I usually avoid listening to this song, but, as much as I might like to sometimes, I just can’t escape from what I need to hear.

I studied Software Development(Java Programming) for 3 years in 2000. God only knows why I chose a programming course over a design course but we live and learn . Web design was a module on that course and during that time I stumbled onto Ingo Ramin’s(24-7 Media Studios) portfolio at 24-7media From there I saw Gabe Rubin’s work at Wrecked and I’ve been teaching myself Photoshop ever since . I’ve definitely been influenced by their work and  that probably shows in some of my designs. I’ve a long way to go to reach the same level as these guys(I met Ingo & his family in Germany not so long ago) whom I’ve lots of respect for among others(see Links), but I’m learning all the time.

I’ve felt stuck in my designs for a while now, and earlier this year I’d decided to give up design altogether & work at something completely different. Something completely different didn’t appeal to me in the long term though and after a long break I found myself getting lost in Photoshop again - thankfully. I decided to get some formal education in design to move it all forward again. So now, I’m a 1st year student on a 4 year Honours Degree in Visual Design & Communication @ Waterford Institute of  Technology in Ireland. Great course - cool class. Who knows where I’ll end up after it - but things are looking good so far.

Anyway…back to the latest graphic - I’ve been trying to transfer the new designs onto the screen for the past while - but no joy until now. ‘If I just lay here’ is from a set of 5 designs that I’ll be posting over the next few weeks.

Hopefully ‘If I Just Lay Here’ will give you an idea of where the new work is heading(”…show me a garden that’s bursting into life”). But you’ll need to see all the new work to get an idea of where I’m heading with it. I doubt this graphic will make sense to many, but it will make sense to some. I’ve stopped trying to make sense of it all anyway. You may not even like it but that’s okay too. There’s also a screensaver in the works around the 5 designs.

I’m surprised with how many visitors I’m getting to the site, and the amount of people downloading the Photoshop Source files over the past while.
